For Eid-ul-Fitr, birth of the Shawwal moon is precisely at
17.22 and 48 seconds GMT on December 25th (Christmas day) - 2001
(on 28th of Ramadan) well after the sunset. Of course, any sighting
of the moon is totally impossible before the evening of December
26th when the majority of the Muslim world will be able to sight
the moon - American continent will have the best chance. Sighting
will most probably take place first in the Indian Ocean and surrounding
areas, then the Middle East, East and South Africa, South Estern
Europe, Western africa, and Americas in this order. Australasias,
Indonesia and even Bangladesh are not likely to sight the moon
until the next day, 27th December. By this conclusion, the last
day of Ramadan for most of the Muslim states should be 26th November
and therefore making 27th of December 2000, the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
However, Eid in Iran, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia
seems almost certain to be on 28th November 2000due to slim chances
of a moonsighting in this region on the 26th . For a comprehensive
